Summerfest. Yeah, that's right.
by Mark
Jul 2, 2009

It's almost here --- our much-plugged show at SUMMERFEST is Sunday Jul 5th at 3pm and goes to 4:30.  Ish.  And yes, again --- you get in free on the 5th from noon until 3pm, without any burdensome coupons, ice cream lids, firstborn, etc.  Perfect for the slow-economy-saddled festivalgoer. We'll be at the Miller Oasis opening up for the opener for the opener for The English Beat, who is opening for Reel Big Fish.  Got it?  Good.

And that's just the start of a pretty busy week for us --- we have additional shows on July 10 and 11 if you can't make the S'fest show -- as always our schedule page has all the details there for you.  Now get out there and ROCK!!

We're on Twitter -- and we have a show SATURDAY NIGHT!
by Jamie Lynn (ed. Mark)
Jun 25, 2009

Whelp. We finally jumped on the Twitter bandwagon! Find us under the username RandomMaxx, and subscribe to receive updates via your computer, cell phone or any mobile device (iPod touch, anyone?)! We (meaning Jamie) will update you (ahem, "tweet") when we have shows, and maybe (meaning yeah, definitely) send out (ahem, "tweet") an interesting fact or two now and again such as "Did you know that Jamie took 6 years of German?!" or "It is a little known fact that Mike Nitka used to get up and guest-sing with Random Maxx back in the day, before he even knew how to play bass (or walk)!" or better yet "Did you know that Mark enjoys shopping for jeans at hot topic (insofar as one could "enjoy" shopping)?" Yeah. That's right. :)

So. Find us. And see y'all on Saturday at Trinity Three Irish Pubs downtown!

(Yeah, I know it's easy to overlook in Jamie's post above, but we do have a show this Saturday at Trinity in downtown Milwaukee, and it's vitally important you show up for it. Show starts at 9:30 and goes considerably later than Summerfest. I'm pretty sure the beer is cheaper at Trinity too. See you at the show!)

Skylight Opera
by Mark
Jun 20, 2009
I don't know if any of you have heard about this already --- but I feel it's my obligation to pass along the info. I have loved every performance I've seen at the Skylight Opera since I first went in 1994, much of it due to the work and vision of artistic director Bill Theisen. Please check out these links below and do what you can to support a superb local theater company, and help them make the right decision.

It is hard for me to say don't support local theater -- and I know a few of us in the band were excited to see Skylight's upcoming production of RENT -- but I'm not sure we'll go now. When the managing director is behaving this way, it becomes apparent that keeping the artistic value of Skylight is not a consideration at all. And who wants to see theater that has no artistic value?

Exit Stage Left... another farewell
by Mark
Jun 17, 2009

Hey everyone,

Lots of changes already with Camp Random Maxx this summer. First of all, we wish a fond farewell to our drummer, Mike Grassman, who has parted with Random Maxx after nearly a year with the band. We will definitely miss Mike's energy and occassionally topless performances, and wish him the best in Life After Random Maxx. Steve Gaulke will once again be filling in on the drums for the interim.

Secondly, some changes in our calendar -- one, you might notice Summerfest has changed our time slot from a noon start to a 3pm start (and playing until about 4:30). What does that mean for you? That there will be no bathroom break in our set, so pace yourself!

Also, we just added a show at Trinity Three Irish Pubs in downtown Milwaukee on Saturday, June 27th. We've never been here, but it should be a blast. Stumble on in and visit on your way home from the first Saturday of Summerfest!

FREE SHOW at John Malone Park on Thursday
by Mark
Jun 12, 2009

Our summer season is going to be chock-full of shows in the Milwaukee area --- the first is this coming Thursday night.  Random Maxx will once again be rocking the gazebo in New Berlin's John Malone Park starting 7pm.  Hopefully we won't have tornado warnings like last year.

This is a BYO event, so bring a blanket, drinks, and a lot of bug spray.  It's also a FREE show, so leave your cash at home.  Mike will only hit you up for cash anyway.  It's also a family event, so bring the kids if you have some.  If you don't have kids, but want some, bring a big jar and a butterfly net and just nab one of the critters.  That's how I got mine.  Just make sure you poke airholes in the lid --- I lost a few because I forgot that critical step...

Sometimes I just type stuff to see if you're still reading.  See you all at the show!

Blog: Homegrown Sounds - Summerfest Day 10: Random Maxx
The Random Maxx Web site describes the group as a "vocal power pop" band. Maxx played at (Summerfest) 2:30 p.m. at the Miller Lite Oasis, and I was extremely impressed by the five Brew City musicians.
