The WAMI Awards also feature a People’s Choice category, with winners selected from each of the four regions of the state. Each region will give awards for Best Band or Solo Act, Best Radio Station, Best Venue, and Best Print Media, for a total of four People’s Choice awards presented. Breaking down as follows, the separate regions ensure musicians and media from every area of the state are recognized:

Southeast: Milwaukee and surrounding counties; north to Sheboygan and Fond du Lac, west to Watertown, and south to the state line.

Southwest: Madison and surrounding area, north to Sauk County, east to Watertown, and south and west to the state line.

Northeast: the Fox Valley, including Appleton, Green Bay, Oshkosh, and Door County.

Northwest: all other areas of the state.

The band winners in these four regions, in addition to having their efforts recognized by WAMI, are also guaranteed a performance spot at this year’s Summerfest on the Potawatomi Bingo & Casino Stage with Sprecher Brewery.

Nominations for the People’s Choice award can be made in writing and submitted to Wisconsin Area Music Industry, PO Box 510826, Milwaukee, WI 53202-0816. Entries, which require a name and complete mailing address, must be post-marked by March 20, 2004. Nomination forms can be downloaded from the WAMI web site, www.wamimusic.com.

The 24th Annual WAMI Awards will be held at the Northern Lights Theatre at Potawatomi Bingo & Casino in Milwaukee on Monday, April 26 at 7:30pm. For more information about the WAMI Awards, including how to order tickets, visit www.wamimusic.com.
